What Is A Side Hustle?
Over the last week, I ran a poll on a few private Facebook groups to get some input on a new product I plan to create and while I got some great information from doing those polls one thing became very evident to me.
While conducting the poll I had several people ask, what is a side hustle?
Personally, I’ve been doing online business since August of 2008 and I am very familiar what a side hustle is but I’ve never once considered whether my audience even understands what this industry jargon term meant.
So in this article, I’m going to clearly define what the term side hustle really means and I’m also going to share what a side hustle is not.
What Is A Side Hustle
To start here is my basic definition of what a side hustle is.
Side Hustle – Is a product or service that you offer or sell on the side of your current full time job to earn extra income.
This could be anything from creating your own product such as a digital or real product such as a course or offering a service such as doing graphic design. Basically, if you can earn money doing it on the side of your job it’s a side hustle.
For example, let’s say you know how to do set up websites and someone pays you $1000 to build a website then it’s a side hustle. Now let’s say you create a course that teaches people how to build a website that you sell for $500, that is a side hustle as well.
So no matter if it’s a product or a service and you can make money from it and you do it on the side of your normal paying job it’s a side hustle.
I hope this isn’t too confusing and if you have any questions just leave a comment below.
What Is Not A Side Hustle
Now what a side hustle is not is an illegal activity such as selling drugs and anything crazy like that.
Personally, I use to have some conflicting ideas as to what a side hustle really was in the beginning myself. At first, I use to think that a side hustle was something to do with freelancing and that’s just not it.
Freelancing is strictly a service-based business. It could be full time, part time, spare time or anytime, but a side hustle is something that you do on the side of your normal paying job.
A good example of this is freelance writing. While this is a freelancing job because it is a service it makes it a side hustle when you are doing it on the side of your normal paying job.
Again I hope this doesn’t confuse you too much but I wanted to really define exactly what a side hustle is in the simplest way possible.
So with that said if you have any questions feel free to ask them below.
Cheers!
